The LEGAL & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LOCAL SPORT AND RECREATION GRANT is designed for non-profit sports groups for recreation and league play. This grant is open to all teams and groups operating within the Town of Legal. Funds for the grant are established through business advertising within the Legal Arena. The number of grant funds available to groups will be dependent on the number of funds collected from the annual advertising sales. The grant is available to non-profit sports and recreational groups who are an Alberta Registered Society or Non-Profit.



Grant funds can be utilized for the purchase of equipment, uniforms, and sponsorship for training clinics required to meet the needs of the group or league team. Equipment purchased must remain in the possession of the group or league and cannot be given to players.



Grant Application Deadlines and intake are:

  • March 31st for the spring and summer programs (ie: soccer, ball)

  • July 31st for the winter programs (ie: hockey, volleyball, basketball, karate, ringette).

  • Applications outside of these dates will be held pending the next intake of applications.

  • Application forms are available on the LEGAL & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE website. Forms can be completed and submitted to

  • Applications can be submitted once annually for each group or organization. The LEGAL & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GRANT COMMITTEE will review all applications and determine eligibility for the grant and the number of funds available.



The maximum amount of the funding requested cannot exceed $1500.00. The available funding to groups will be dependent on the number of applications submitted and the funds collected from advertising sales. Funds must be used for the benefit of the entire league and not individual players or teams. Funds must be used within 1 year from receipt of grant funds and followed by an accounting of expenditures. Copies of invoices/receipts may be requested by the Funding Committee.



The following attachments must be included with the application.

  1. Most recent reviewed or audited financial statement presented to Alberta Registries detailing income and dispersal of funds, and assets. The Grant committee has the right to ask for additional financial information before approval of grants.

  2. Current operating budget.

  3. A detailed budget of the proposed use of proceeds from the Grant application
